Attitudes That Keep You Tied To Negative Thoughts

To avoid being tied to negative thoughts, you must start getting rid of all those attitudes and behaviors that, far from helping you, sink you further into the loop of unhappiness.

In order to solve a problem we must first be aware that we have it. We must be honest with ourselves and know our limitations. Frustrations, inferiority complexes, unresolved conflicts, resentment, and envy are attitudes that keep us tied to negative thoughts.

It is very important to let go of that psychological burden and stop complicating our lives with destructive thoughts that contribute nothing to us. Sometimes life already brings us enough pain and pain to make us bitter with negative thoughts.

What causes negative thoughts?

1. The grudge

negative thoughts

There is an old oriental proverb that says: Grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other to die. Hatred and resentment destroy us inside. They make us suspicious and sullen people. In addition, when we feed these negative thoughts our fears also grow and that can lead us to unhappiness.

Living with thoughts of revenge causes us a state of unease and continuous frustration. Without a doubt, the best option is to learn to turn the page and continue our life without that weight. And this is only possible if we forgive with the heart and are at peace with ourselves.

Having the feeling that everyone owes us something or that the world is to blame for our unhappiness is living with a blindfold. Our situation depends only on us and anchoring ourselves to the past is not practical or attracts prosperity.

2. Guilt

We all know that being wrong is human. However, there are mistakes that, whether due to their seriousness, their intentionality or the irreversible evil that we cause to others, cost a lot to forgive oneself. An infidelity, an involuntary traffic accident, a bad decision that makes us lose our economy, etc., can make us develop a feeling of guilt.

This type of negative thinking turns us off and saddens us to the point of being able to enter a depressive state. That is why we must understand that we cannot go back in time and accept the cause of our pain with resignation. We all deserve a second chance.

3. Envy and jealousy

negative thoughts

Envy is one of the psychological traits that keep us tied to all kinds of negative thoughts. In addition, it is an aspect of our personality that is manifested, at first, in small details that can go unnoticed.

Over time, if we feed that kind of thinking into our psyche, we become ill-considered, greedy, conflictive, and insanely suspicious people.

You envy a dress, a house, a social or economic position, the beauty of others, the kind character of someone, etc. There is no common logic for having these kinds of bad thoughts. Therefore, it is our choice to live with them inside.

Jealousy also generates negative thoughts that tend to explode into attitudes of anger and aggressiveness. The feeling of possession of the loved one, the inferiority complex and the authoritarian or macho character are very dangerous attitudes that we should not feed or allow ourselves.

4. The undervaluation

Having low self-esteem in some aspect of life or in some quality creates self-destructive thoughts. We must apply common sense and understand that each person has an art, characteristics or specialties that make us unique beings.

One attitude that ties us to negative thoughts is to idealize other people’s lives. However, there is no reason to believe that someone is superior to us. Erudite or highly cultured people are no better than any peasant. On the other hand, neither does money make us better human beings.

Thinking that others do not have problems, dreaming of resembling them and desiring their lifestyle generates a very subtle type of underestimation and leads us to unhappiness. And, deep down, it is a contempt for our own life. Undervaluation is as harmful as its opposite, pride.

A vital attitude

Therefore, as a conclusion, we must try to be positive and have a vital attitude. Do not prejudge or think badly of anyone, but do not idealize them either, because each person has their struggles and their reasons for acting.

It is better not to isolate ourselves and share our feelings and thoughts with trusted friends. Therefore, we must learn to manage frustrations and bad stages of life. In turn, an active and social lifestyle will help us avoid negative thoughts.
