Head lice are a common problem that affects many families, especially those with children between the ages of 3 and 12, as they are the most affected. Although they are not dangerous, lice are very annoying.

These highly contagious parasites infest the hair, where they feed on small amounts of blood drawn from the scalp.

When a child suffers from lice, they notice that their scalp itches a lot and scratching can cause redness or even injuries.

Today we are going to discover some natural remedies against lice that are not aggressive with the scalp. Let’s see, some of these alternatives to shampoos or lotions that we can find in pharmacies.

Vinegar treatment

One of the natural remedies against lice par excellence is vinegar. It is recommended to heat it a little and apply it all over the scalp, massaging it so that it covers all the roots.

Ingredients

  • Apple vinager.
  • Fine-toothed comb (special for nits and lice).

Way to proceed

  • It should be applied with dry hair and let it act for at least half an hour to an hour, covering the head with a shower or latex cap.
  • If we find it difficult to bear the smell of vinegar for so long, we can mix it in equal parts with hot water, in this case, we will let it act for longer, about two hours.
  • When the indicated time passes, we will rinse the hair with water and we will pass from the roots to the ends, a fine-toothed comb, which will drag the lice and nits, which are easily removed, since the vinegar makes the substance that keeps these parasites attached to the hair and scalp, soften.

    Rosemary and eucalyptus infusion

Another natural remedy against lice is to apply an infusion of rosemary and eucalyptus with lemon juice. It is as effective as the previous one, therefore, trying both remedies will allow us to know which one we like the most or which of them is more comfortable for us to prepare and apply.

    Ingredients

    • Rosemary leaves
    • Eucalyptus leaves.
    • 1 liter of water.
    • 1 lemon

    Preparation

    • We will boil some rosemary and eucalyptus leaves in a liter of water.
    • When it boils, add the juice of a lemon.
    • It will be applied to the hair and after half an hour or three quarters, it will be rinsed with water and washed as normal.

    What should we consider?

Although natural lice remedies can be very effective, if lice persist or if our doctor strongly recommends using a specific shampoo or lotion, we should always prioritize this opinion.

Although it is true that lice do not constitute a serious threat to health, it is true that they are very uncomfortable and that they can cause damage to the scalp due to the uncontrollable gesture of scratching the head.

If we try the two previous home treatments and they go very well, we should carry them out twice a week for a month.

When the lice are eradicated we can continue using these remedies mixed with the usual shampoo to prevent the lice from re-establishing themselves in our head. If we do not want to do this, at least once a week we can use one of the two remedies as a prevention method.

In addition, after washing the hair, we will apply a softener or mask to brush the hair with a special comb and facilitate the removal of nits or lice.

If we want to prevent a child with lice from infecting their siblings or relatives,  we must wash clothing and bedding at high temperatures, dry clean dolls and plush toys, vacuum rugs, carpets and upholstered furniture, as well as You must soak in alcohol, those utensils for personal hygiene or that may have been in contact with the child.

Hygiene is very important to prevent lice from spreading to the whole family and continuing to spread. Have you ever used any of these home remedies for lice?
